I am currently reading “The Man in the High Castle” by Philip K. Dick (PKD). This and other stories have been turned into tv series and movies. The work of Philip K. Dick had huge impact on culture and media. Even though he is often labeled as a science fiction author, I think his stories go well beyond.

I have read “The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch” and “Ubik” and both stories stuck with me. The theme of his stories is usually about a detective with a fragile personality. It deals with powerful entities, deception, and the perception of reality. Reading his works can give you a psychedelic feeling. Not often the protagonist ends up in recursive nightmare and has to pull himself out of madness.

It is well known that PKD experimented with drugs and had paranormal experiences. His writing and ideas were very much derived from his personal experiences.

Some of his books have entered the public domain and can be found here: https://gutenberg.org/ebooks/author/33399
