The app I am using to create the post header images is 8Bit Photo Lab. I cannot praise this app enough. The thing it does is simple. You take an image and run it through a bunch filters (downsampling) and out comes a pixelated version of it. The new image does not compare to the original. With this app you always create something new.

8Bit Photo Lab comes from a time where apps explored the many ways and possibilities of smartphones. In this case the smartphone provided a way to take picture and edit them on the same device. That was something ordinary cameras could not do.

Although the app did not seen much love over the years, it still works. That is something many apps cannot say. The user interface is very functional. You can access all kinds of presets, filters, colors and stickers. Selection and adjustments are done with a carousel selector. The presets are based on retro computers and game consoles. You can render the images in the style of an Apple II or a Commodore Pet screen.
